Information in this article applies to:

Outlook XP, Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007

PROBLEM:

When typing email addresses in Outlook To... field, mistyped e-mail address reappear.

CAUSE:

The entry is cashed in Outlook client autocomplete cash.

SOLUTION:

To remove single entry:

Use the arrow key to select the incorrect address and press the Delete key

000032-01

To remove all entries from the cash:

Delete the .nk2 files in which Outlook keeps those entries.

They are usually located unde the following location:

WIndows XP/2000

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Windows Vista /Outlook 2007

C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\outlook

.nk2 files are hidden system files and therefore it can happen that you can't find them using search.  To be able to find/see them, in Windows Explorer, under Tools | Folder Options | select the View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files".

Older versions of Outlook store nicknames in a file using the extension *.nick.

There is also a 3rd party utilities that allow you to view and edit NK2 files on one or mutliple computers, for example:
- Nirsoft NK2Edit -  or
- Ingressor utilities
